We sorted our EU AI Act compliance in an afternoon. Here's how.

This is a realistic fictional example based on common SME situations. It shows what the process actually looks like — not a specific client story.

A client legal team asked for AI compliance confirmation before renewing a contract. Sarah, ops director at a 15-person Manchester agency, had a week to sort it. Here's what she did.

How Sarah ran the audit in 25 minutes

Sarah ran the NudgeCompliant audit. She listed their AI tools — ChatGPT, Midjourney, HubSpot AI, Notion AI — and described how each was used. She answered questions about data handling and customer-facing use.

Results:

  • ChatGPT: Limited risk. Article 50 transparency notice needed for customer-facing use.
  • Midjourney: Limited risk. AI-generated imagery needs labelling if used in public-facing content.
  • HubSpot AI: Minimal risk. Internal use only. Staff literacy documentation needed.
  • Notion AI: Minimal risk. Internal tool. No specific obligations beyond Article 4.

Two meaningful actions. Not twelve. Two.

How Sarah fixed the transparency notice in 20 minutes

ChatGPT needed a disclosure. Sarah used NudgeCompliant to generate one. It drafted website disclosure text. It also drafted a version for proposal templates. ChatGPT output sometimes landed in client work there.

She reviewed it. Tweaked the company name and contact details. Got legal sign-off in a 10-minute Slack thread.

It went live the same day on their contact page and in client onboarding docs.

How Sarah got the team trained in 45 minutes

Article 4 needed proof that staff understood AI — its limits and the rules. Sarah ran NudgeCompliant training modules during Tuesday stand-up. Five modules. About 15 minutes each.

NudgeCompliant generated completion certificates and a team training log. Sarah exported a PDF for the compliance folder.

How Sarah closed the client in 10 minutes

Sarah sent the client their NudgeCompliant trust page link. She attached a PDF summary of AI tools, risk classifications, and completed obligations.

The contract renewed the following week.

Total time: about three hours

Not three months. Not £30,000. Three hours and a Starter plan subscription.

The agency now has a compliance dashboard that updates when regulations change. Email nudges before upcoming deadlines. A trust page they send to any client who asks.

The EU AI Act doesn't have to be a project. For most SMEs on standard AI tools, it's a morning.

Your 10-minute action: Open a doc. List every AI tool your team uses — ChatGPT, Copilot, CRM AI, design tools. One line per tool: internal only or customer-facing? That list is step one of your audit.

This example is fictional. Your situation may differ. Not legal advice.
